It's Your Turn In The Hot Seat

The Hot Seat has been deliberately developed after realising my days and weeks are full of challenging conversations with my clients, often after something has gone terribly amiss, or very much not according to plan, and asking myself what I could do to make it different.

I’ve noticed these conversations with me are usually happening, often too late, simply because you don’t know where to have them beforehand. Which shows up in statements such as I don’t have enough time, it’s going to cost too much to get an expert in, I’ve got too much work on, I am forever chasing new staff, it’s not really a big deal it will sort itself out…which are really just covering the fact that we would do anything to avoid these things happening, if only we knew how.

Many of the discussions I am involved with have similar themes across many categories and industries.

How Will It Work

In developing this program, I wanted to expand the one-on-one experience my key clients currently enjoy in a selective small group. These groups who would meet bi-monthly and in turn each participant would be in the hot seat to table what is challenging them.

My role would be to facilitate discussion among the group with the tabled topic. Each participant would add their current knowledge and skills on how they would handle the issue. During the discussion, I would weave in my own knowledge on the topic to provide a sound and robust sounding board, and potential solution for the issue tabled.

Who Is It For

The Collective Program:

  • One of the key considerations for this program is that all participants are engaged in a senior leadership, owner’s or founder’s role. As such, you hold the responsibility for stepping up and making decisions that affect the day to day running and the welfare of the employees within the business – and you know you are bound not only by operational imperatives, but the confines and constraints of legislation, regulations, and statutory requirements. This program is designed for a maximum of 6 participants per program.

The Intrinsic Program:

  • Executives & Management: Based on the same framework of the Collective program, this program is very similar with a slight twist. To determine the content of the program a day will be spent to strategically understand what are the key issues and drivers that need to be worked on. These will become the elements of delivery for the Intrinsic Program. This program is designed for a maximum of 10 participants per program.

Emergence Program:

  • Emerging Leaders: This program has four core elements, supported by two additional elements determined by the business. Participants will learn legal liability, personal responsibility and how to lean into their role. This program is designed for a maximum of 12 participants per program.

  • A collective Brains Trust. It is only recently I personally joined a personal mentoring program and a professional development program where relationships are deepened through live events with others experiencing similar challenges – and I now cannot imagine life without the collective brains trust surrounding me.
  • The opportunity to table sensitive challenges in an environment which operates under the premise of Chatham House Rules, and with an expert in the fields of people, performance and the overarching compliance challenges.

Complaints Handling - Perilious or Not - You Be The Judge

The Complaints Handling Process within any business is the most important way to learn about the experiences your employees are having within your organisation. Unfortunately many incidents go unreported, handled badly and even dismissed.

Therefore, there is a critical and urgent need to change the status quo when it comes to handling complaints within the workplace – evidenced by escalating mental harm and increased death rates in spite of legislative frameworks being tightened.

Whilst we think that is them and not us, the landscape has shifted, and most employers are sitting on quicksand. Employers can no longer plead ignorance – as ignorance means possible jail time when things go wrong.

It is indisputable the current method for workplace investigations is damaging the well-being of participants. It is a world, where far too often HR are not yet skilled to handle baseline complaints let alone complex issues – and external investigators tend to be appointed only once the complaint has reached a perilous stage with all parties at a complete state of despair.

We have to challenge the status quo and look for a very different way to manage complaints in all businesses...

Maureen Kyne & Associates are challenging the status quo and are launching new programs for Complaints Handling and RESPECT workshops. Our programs suit all levels and are designed to maximise the participants experience, as some have described it is like being in a flight simulator.
